Bobby Santos III NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Advance: New Hampshire Motor Speedway
Race: F.W. Webb 100
NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour: 12 of 14
Track: New Hampshire Motor Speedway
Date: September 18, 2010
Bobby Santos III and No. 4 Mystic Missile Racing team will return to NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour (NWMT) at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS) on Saturday, September 18. The team looks to finish the F.W. Webb 100 two spots ahead of the third-place finish they posted in the last two races. This will be the second NWMT race at NHMS this season.
NEW HAMPSHIRE MOTOR SPEEDWAY - Santos is not a stranger to the "Magic Mile." The Franklin, Mass., native has made seven starts at the mile track and has an average finish of 10th in the August NHMS races. Mystic Missile also has a good track record at NHMS, as the team has won there in three of the last seven races.
BY THE NUMBERS - Santos and team are on a roll, finishing third in the last two NWMT races. The team finished outside the top-10 twice this season and looks to keep it that way this weekend. With an average finish of 10th in the August NHMS race and an average NWMT season finish of 6.3, the 24-year-old is poised to add to his nine top-10 and eight top-five finishes this weekend.
NON-TOUR RACING - During the month-long break in NWMT racing, Santos did not take time off from racing. During Labor Day Weekend, the 24-year-old ran the 54th Budwiser Classic Supermod 200 at Oswego Speedway. He was in contention for the lead when a caution flew. Eager to get back to racing, Santos could see the win. A green-white-checker finish followed, and unfortunately, Santos ran out of fuel. He finished 10th. The following weekend, Santos ran the ISMA Big Block Supermodified Classic Championship 100 on September 11th and finished third in the special event at Lee USA Speedway.
LAST RACE RECAP: BRISTOL MOTOR SPEEDWAY - Santos started the UNOH Perfect Storm 150 from the third spot in his Bristol Motor Speedway debut. Santos battled a brake problem in the first half of the race. During the mandatory break, the team worked on the problem, which allowed Santos to work the No. 4 Dodge up through the field. Santos finished fourth overall and third among NWMT drivers in the combined event with the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour.
BACK IN THE LEAD - Santos sat atop of the NWMT Championship point standings for 10 consecutive races before Ted Christopher overtook the lead following the August race at Thompsonville International Speedway. Santos reclaimed the point lead following the race at Bristol Motor Speedway. Christopher now sits 32 points behind with three races to go.
Bobby Santos III Quotes:
ON RACING AT NEW HAMPSHIRE MOTOR SPEEDWAY - "I am definitely excited to go back to New Hampshire. We ran very well there in the spring, and I think we have some ideas to be even better this time. I'm looking forward to go racing again. It seems like it has been forever since we have ran any Tour races. I can't ask for a better situation to have a shot at winning the championship with three races to go. We do well at the next three race tracks, so I am excited."
