Bobby Santos III Listed Second on Top-51 Short Track Racing Prospects List
The first installment of the 2010 Top-51 Short Track Racing Prospects list was released by speed51.com yesterday, showing Bobby Santos III in the second highest spot. Santos finds himself in the top-10 of this list for the third consecutive year. He was previously listed in third and seventh in 2009 and 2008, respectively.
The list is voted on by journalists and industry insiders, including several in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Of those polled, three people picked Santos as the number one prospect. In order to be considered for the list, a driver must be between the ages of 12 and 30 and currently not be racing in any of NASCAR's top three divisions.
The 24-year-old was named to the list because of his outstanding talent and potential. He has proved this with his ability to win in any type of car, regardless of the series he is racing in or team he is competing for. "I'm really excited to be on this list again," Santos said. "It's an honor to be recognized by respected people in the industry and to be listed among such talented drivers."
Santos, a member of the Heinke-Baldwin Racing driver development program, is currently competing for Mystic Missile Racing in the full 2010 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. After one race, Santos sits first in the point standings following his pole, new track record and win at Thompson International Speedway. He also won the pole and set a new track record during qualifying for last week's rained-out Tech-Net Spring Sizzler presented by CARQUEST. The race, at Stafford Motor Speedway, has been rescheduled for this Saturday, May 1.
Chase Elliott was listed in the top spot on the 2010 prospects list. Ross Kenseth landed in the third spot, with Casey Roderick, Bubba Pollard, Johnny Van Doorn, Matt Hirschman, Steve Arpin, Kevin Swindell and Coleman Pressley making up the remainder of the top-10.
